Basketball team is holding a practice at Fenger High School. School is where they beat the kid to death a few weeks ago.

I think this is just great for a couple of reasons. This is what a great Jesuit institution should be all about. Reaching into the Chicago community and
stressing the importance of education to many where Loyola probably seems like another world. This really makes me proud to be an alumni.
Second, it can help Coach Whitesell start to build a relationship with the Chicago Public league. I still dream of the day where we get a top Public League player who is willing to work hard to become a great student athlete. Could you imagine the press we would get with a player from Chicago leading us to an NCAA berth. It could start a Renaissance for Loyola basketball! Call me a dreamer but that's my dream! |

What apparently was not publicized was the men and women basketball coaches from Loyola, DePaul and Northwestern , possibly also from UIC though I do not know
it for a fact did a luncheon event yesterday
A friend of mine from Northwestern attended. He said it was a great time with the coaches polking a lot of good nature jabs at each other it was not widly attended by any school's fan base . Might have been a by invatation only event It is always good when the area college coaches and ADs get together for a fun time |

Zekey-Dekey !! I agree totally--but then who would not ?? Service ! That is what it is all about--In this case, it is a win-win situation as you say.
You know, there MUST be some kids in Chgo Hoops that could and would wish to study hard and still play Hoops !! There just has to be--Maybe W and his coaches might just find some ! What a nice deal that would be. BTW at Walsh Jesuit here in Akron , Grand-son Alex is doin' his stuff every Sunday at St Edwards Nursing Home--He wheels the folks down to Mass and he and four other kids visit with them afterwards--That IS the Jesuit way---I wager the other High Schools do the same--Hoban and St V (you know who's school) as well. |
